Laura Gardner

From London gained the Bronze award.

Champion profile:

Laura works in the creative sector and wanted to celebrate the skills of her talented friends while supporting the MS Society. Laura and her friend Susanna live in the Marylebone area and found a pub called the Duke of York which offered to help out with an event.

Laura ran a fundraising evening called 'Susanna on the Joanna'. Her friend Susanna is a répétiteur at the Royal Opera House and offered to 'swap Mozart for Mother Brown' in their local pub for the night. People always want to have a 'good old fashioned Cockney knees up with some stars from the opera world'. With the help of many friends they were able to set up a fantastic event. Both Laura and Susanna have personal experience of the impact of living with MS and wanted to support the Society.

Laura's advice is that people always want to have fun so try to make your event as creative and enjoyable as possible. They also raised extra money through bidding for the opera singers to carry on singing.
