MS and Palliative Care
Palliative care is a speciality that cares for people with advanced conditions, focusing on the management of symptoms, supporting patients and families, coordinating social care, patient choice and managing bereavement.
The MS Society has produced a guide to palliative care for people with MS. This publication is based on a study developed by King's College Hospital and funded by the MS Society. It is aimed at health and social care professionals, and promotes the better integration of palliative care, neurology and neuro-rehabilitation to optimise quality of life. It covers the following key areas:
- principles of palliative care
- government policy on palliative care
- challenges in advanced MS
- optimising quality of life
- advance planning, including wills
- end of life care
The Professional Network Conference for 2009 was held on Palliative Care on 12 June at The Sage, Gateshead, Newcastle.
The conference aimed to introduce and update delegates on relevant palliative and end of life national strategy and initiatives and practice issues to enable them to provide evidence-based, person-centred quality care to people affected by MS.Click on the link above to find out what happend
